The rich cultural heritage that the the Town of Victoria Park represents, provides opportunities for everyone to engage with, promote and learn from other cultures, to enhance the bonds and vibrancy of our community.
At the last Census in 2011, 40.5% of the Town of Victoria Park’s population was born overseas, with 27.1% from a non-English speaking background.
In 2013, council supported the creation of a Cultural Engagement Officer in the Town. This position operates within the Neighbourhood Enrichment Team, and seeks to establish links with culturally and linguistically diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups to foster inclusivity and a greater sense of community.
The Town’s cultural engagement occurs through a range of activities that includes:
