Adopt-a-Spot

Have you ever felt frustrated by seeing litter lying around your street or park, or wondered how you can contribute to a cleaner and healthier community. Whether you are an individual or part of a community group, business or school community, the Adopt-a-Spot program is a simple way to volunteer a few hours to do your bit for a cleaner environment. You receive free resources to help, insurance cover if you need it and an adoption certificate.

What is involved?

Adopters agree to look after a site for two years and Keep Australia Beautiful Council of WA (KABWA) provides clean up tools, an adoption certificate, volunteer insurance, safety information and recognition on the KABWA website honour roll.

Why Adopt-a-Spot?

Litter is an ongoing problem faced by every community in Western Australia; the facts and figures on litter are quite alarming. In 2013/14 the National Litter Index, a survey of litter across 1,059 national sites, showed the litter problem in Western Australia to be greater in magnitude than most states indicated by:

  • the number of litter items in WA being almost twice 1.72 times that of Victoria and 1.26 times that of the Northern Territory
  • the volume of litter in WA being 2.8 times that of Victoria and 2.67 times that of the Northern Territory.

KABWA and the Town need the community’s help in the fight against litter.

The Adopt-a-Spot program gives local communities the opportunity to not only reduce litter but contribute to a healthier, safer and cleaner environment. It’s a great way to get involved in your community, meet new people, get physically active and help keep your neighbourhood and WA litter-free.
