Plastic Free Places business program

Plastic Free Places

Together with WA Plastic Free, the Town is implementing the Plastic Free Places business program.

The program invites up to 20 local cafes and restaurants in Vic Park to work with WA Plastic Free who will assist them to switch from single-use plastics to better alternatives, empowering them to become Plastic Free Champions.

Plastic Free Champions are businesses that have eliminated all key plastic items (straws, coffee cups and lids, takeaway containers and lids, food ware (cutlery, plates, cups etc), water bottles and bags) from their operations.

The Town of Victoria Park is the first WA local government council to be involved in this nation-wide Plastic Free Places business program.

What’s involved in Plastic Free Places?

The Plastic Free Places program is a six month involvement, divided into activities including:

  1. Having a WA Plastic Free consultant work with the participating businesses to identify the most problematic and prolific sources of the litter stream. Together, you will identify and address any barriers to transition, identify the exact alternatives and solutions you require and where to source them, strategies to reduce costs, and access to organised product discounts through the program.
  2. The Town works with WA Plastic Free to support participating businesses through communications and engagement activities during the six months program period. Support can be in the form of:
    • An online network/forum for businesses to talk to other Plastic Free Places participants to ask questions, get inspiration and share wins and challenges.
    • Access to special offers or products from plastic free suppliers that have been vetted and approved by WA Plastic Free.
    • Promotions and marketing of your business involvement through the Town’s general and economic development communications channels.
    • A media launch event, organised by the Town, to showcase the businesses involved.
    • A post-program celebration event, organised by the Town, to congratulate the involvement and efforts of participating businesses.
  3. A further consultation with WA Plastic Free near the end of the program on your progress and achievements. Those who have been successful in meeting the objectives of the program will be provided with a Plastic Free champion decal/signage that can be publicly displayed, listing in WA Plastic Free and Town of Victoria Park website and relevant promotions.
