ESL reading circle
Is English your second language? Do you want to practice your reading and speaking skills in a fun and informal way?
Join Opalina for a welcoming and encouraging conversation and reading circle. Meet others, practice your English, and learn a little about Australia along the way.

The reading circle meets on Wednesday afternoons during the school term period.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
The library has a dedicated ESL collection for ESL learners and teachers including IELTS textbooks and study guides, conversational and phrase books, instructional DVDs, bilingual books, and easy-to-read fiction titles.
Foreign language
The library’s foreign language collection contains both fiction and non-fiction books written in languages other than English. Languages include: Arabic, Chinese, Croatian/Serbian, Farsi, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Punjabi, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese.
Junior language collections
Are you originally from somewhere other than Australia? Do you want to pass on your original language to your children? Or do your children know your original language but need to improve their English language skills?
The library’s junior English as a second language and foreign language collections contain language books and resources appropriate for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Want to learn a new language? Try Transparent Language Online (TLO). TLO is a powerful and personalised language-learning system that you can use to learn a variety of languages.
To access TLO: Connect via the website.
To create a TLO account: Sign up as a Victoria Park Library member with your membership card number and sign in.
To learn on a computer: Learn languages online from your web browser. (Read the user guide for step-by-step instructions.)
To learn on a device: Connect to the TLO website from your web browser to access the username and mobile password listed in the ‘Go Mobile’ section of your TLO user homepage. Libby provides WA State Library and Public Libraries members with access to a range of full-colour, interactive, digital magazines delivered right to your desktop or favourite device.
