Local Planning Strategy

The Local Planning Strategy provides a blueprint for the planning and development of neighbourhoods and commercial (activity) centres over the next 10 to 15 years and informs the preparation of a new Local Planning Scheme No.2 to replace Town Planning Scheme No.1.

The final Local Planning Strategy was endorsed by the WA Planning Commission in May 2022.

Proposed Local Planning Scheme No.2

The Town is currently drafting a new Local Planning Scheme. Scheme No.2 is based on the recommendations of the Local Planning Strategy which can be found here(PDF, 11MB).

At the 16 August Council Meeting, the Council resolved to endorse the draft Scheme No.2 for public advertising. A copy of the Council Report can be found here (go to 16 August Council meeting, Item 12.4).  Before the Town can proceed to advertising, the Town must also seek the permission of the WA Planning Commission. This process may take several months, so formal advertising of the draft Scheme won't take place until late 2022/early 2023 at the earliest.
