Local business owner Patrick Renner talks to Vic Park Biz News about why he loves the Vic Park community and the biggest lessons he's learnt after owning his own business.

What was the driver behind starting Archer St Physiotherapy Centre?

The main determination at starting my own Private Physiotherapy Practice was to utilise the skills I had as a physiotherapist and manual therapist, and combine them with my desire to be autonomous and make the most of the advantages of being self-employed. Starting my own business has financially given me both an active and passive income, an asset and future security; but has also given me a creative outlet, a flexible work-life balance and a way to give back to the community that I love.

What is the biggest lesson you have learnt over the years of owning your own business?

The biggest lesson I have learnt in owning your own business, is to never stop improving, being innovative and trying new things. At our clinic, we never stop aiming to increase our offering to the community – and this results in constant client growth and increased brand recognition. We undertake regular professional development via physiotherapy courses, workshops and seminars to add to our skills – such as Jaw Therapy and Vertigo treatment. We add to our service offerings with up to date technologies, for example our Realtime Ultrasound Scanning Machine. And there is the constant gentrification of our facilities, improving our business efficiency and being innovative with how we market to the community. One can never stop!

Why do you love being a part of the Vic Park community?

I was born, raised, educated and I currently live and work in the Town of Victoria Park – so being a part of the Vic Park Community allows me to give back to the family and friends I grew up with. I love the “small town” feel and mentality of this community, where everyone knows and supports each other. Our clinic loves to involve ourselves in as many local events as possible as it maintains our community connection and we love getting to know people’s names, stories and backgrounds, rather than them just being a customer. This year we have offered regular free Community Info Nights on various physical problems such as back pain, headaches or sore knees – where we answer any questions people may have and empower the community to self-manage their health.

What’s next for Archer St Physiotherapy?

In short, growth! We are currently adding another qualified Physiotherapist to our team to assist with the large client numbers we care for. We’ll also be increasing our service offerings, such as our Home Visit and Nursing Home Visit services; adding on more Pilates Fitness Classes and we are currently liaising with a local GP to undertake supervised Weight loss Classes for clients struggling with obesity. We’ll also be adding more allied health practitioners to work alongside our Physios, Podiatrists, Occupational Therapists and Remedial Massage Therapists. Our aim is to have an affordable and quality one-stop-shop for all of the community’s allied health needs.
