Tech savvy classes

Tech savvy 2021 classes will be held at the library on the last Saturday of the month. There will be two sessions, the first between 10am-12noon and the second from 1pm-3pm.
Learn how to get the most out of your digital devices such as tablets, laptops, mobile phones (Apple and Android) as well as how to use the library digital collection and online e-resources. Please bring your own device.
These sessions will be run by Casey Chang and Roger Meakes. Each month will address a different topic, which has been listed below.
When bookings are open they will be available via the Library (phone, email or online booking calendar).
27 February: Video-conferencing 101
Learn how to stay connected with friends and family using video-conferencing apps such as Zoom, WhatsApp, Face Time, Skype and Facebook Messenger.
27 March: Avoid scams and protect yourself online
Raise your awareness of scams and learn how to stay safe online. We’ll cover Scamwatch/Scamnet, “phishing” attacks and creating strong passwords.
24 April: Access free movies, books and events online
Find out how to access free movies and e-books through the Victoria Park Library. We’ll also show you how to use the online booking system to sign up for free Library events and training sessions.
29 May: How to avoid computer viruses
We’ll show you how to set up and use free anti-virus software on a computer, laptop, phone or tablet.
26 June: Discover and use free WiFi internet
Learn how to save money by using free WiFi internet at the Library, shops and other public places. We’ll also show you how to use WiFi extenders to boost speed.
31 July: How to set up a printer
We’ll show you how to set up and use a printer using USB, WiFi and apps.
28 August: Smart homes and smart devices
Learn all about the various types of smart devices you can use in your home. We’ll show you how to use voice-controlled smart speakers, and how to display content from your smart phone on your TV.
25 September: Using Virtual Private Networks for security and privacy
Boost your security and privacy on any device.
30 October: Access free BeConnected Online Courses
Want to learn more about computers, the internet, smartphones and more? Learn how to access free courses online through the Be Connected platform (free online training for seniors).
27 November: Photo storage 101
How to back up your files and photos online using cloud storage, iCloud, Google Drive and OneDrive.
