The revitalisation of Etwell Street, East Vic Park kicks off this month as part of the Town of Victoria Park’s ‘Old Places, New Spaces’ Program.

The project will transform Etwell Street between Riverview Road and Northampton Street into a vibrant hub connecting local businesses and the community.

“Reimagining old places into new, more dynamic spaces is at the heart of this program. Etwell Street will be a great example because the local community were involved in the co-design of the new space.” said Mayor Karen Vernon.

Key features of the revitalisation include a unique curved road to slow traffic, more shade and greenery for pedestrians, public art and two separate public spaces for local events.

As part of the Town’s urban forest program, approximately 39 new trees will be added to the area.

The Etwell Street Local Centre Revitalisation is fully funded by the Federal Department of Infrastructure, under Phase 2 of the Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program.

Mayor Vernon said: “The funding from the Commonwealth government in 2020 was an unexpected, but very welcome, bonus for the Town, and the Etwell Street project was the perfect match.  We are very grateful to the Commonwealth Government and Steve Irons, Member for Swan, for helping deliver this revitalisation to our East Vic Park community.”

Works for are scheduled to be carried out from mid-October until early December 2021.

Construction will be delivered in a staged approach to minimise disruptions for the businesses on Etwell Street and local residents.

The Town will keep the community informed on the progress of the works, as well as any disruptions that are expected.
