As part of their mission to get more people growing, sharing and eating locally grown food, our partner Grow it Local have launched the latest edition of their Seed Service, a bi-annual a patch-to-plate adventure that makes free organic seeds and instructional content easily available to local residents.

This spring, our community members will have the chance to grow a garden salad for FREE with the support of master gardener, celebrity chef and TV host, Paul West, and thousands of other local growers across Australia.

New members can register on the Grow it Local website to receive free organic green buttercrunch lettuce and organic red lettuce salad bowl seeds. By registering, you’ll also receive access to instructional 'how-to-grow' videos from Paul West, where you’ll learn about the plant origins, their nutritional values and health benefits, and harvesting tips.  Of course, there’s a garden salad recipe, as well as access to free ‘Ask An Expert’ sessions where members can get horticultural advice. It's your very own seed-to-salad adventure!

Interest in growing food at home has exploded in recent times (in part due to the pandemic), with an unprecedented 5.5 million Australian households now estimated to be growing or interested in growing food at home. Despite the surge in interest, a key barrier faced by aspiring growers is a lack of knowledge and skills. Grow it Local seeks to address this hurdle by enabling the sharing of knowledge and skills to help edible gardeners succeed.

The Spring Seed Service is free and available to the first 100 Vic Park residents, businesses, schools and community groups who register via the Grow it Local website. The offer is open to new and aspiring growers, and people not already registered with Grow it Local.

Happy planting!
