The inaugural members of the Vic Park Young Leaders team have been selected, following a call out from the Town of Victoria Park to the community in January.

Created in response to community consultation which formed the basis for the Town’s Youth Action Plan 2021-24, the Town has welcomed 11 community members between the ages of 16 and 25, who want to make an impact within their community and further develop their skills and experience as leaders.

Mayor Karen Vernon said it was exciting to see the Vic Park Young Leaders get underway and begin acting on the objectives in the Youth Action Plan.

“Young people living and working within the Town have told us they want to feel connected and be part of a community that provides them with opportunities to be involved in developing strategies, plans and activities” said Mayor Vernon.

“Inspired by the ideas shared by young people involved with the creation of the Youth Action Plan, we’ve created our Young Leaders team, and what better time to celebrate and introduce our new leaders than Youth Week.

“We are excited for our young leaders to help make our Town a dynamic place for everyone.”

Having had their first official meetings throughout March, the new team members will be introduced to the community through the Town’s social channels from this Friday as part of its celebration of Youth Week (April 8-16).

The Team will also be involved with the free Amazing Race youth event, organised by The Belmont, Victoria Park, South Perth Local Drug Action Group, and taking place at Manning Community Hub during the school holidays on Tuesday 12 April.

Team members will showcase the Town’s blender bike – a pedal-powered smoothie-making machine – at the event and will hand out clues to participants in the race.
