Applications have opened for the Town of Victoria Park’s inaugural Youth Leadership Teams program.
Created in response to community consultation which formed the basis for the Town’s Youth Action Plan 2021-24, the program is seeking passionate community members between the ages of 16 and 25, who want to make an impact within their community and further develop their skills and experience as leaders.
Mayor Karen Vernon said the Youth Leadership Teams would give participants a hands-on opportunity to help shape their community and be a part of the change they want to see for themselves and other young people.
“Young people living and working within the Town have told us they want to feel connected and be part of a community that enables them to thrive and provides them with opportunities to be involved in developing strategies, plans and activities” said Mayor Vernon.
“52 per cent of youth survey respondents shared ideas for ways the Town could help young people be community leaders, and we’ve taken those ideas on board in the creation of our Youth Leadership Teams. We are excited for these Teams to help make our Town a dynamic place for everyone.”
16 applicants will be chosen to take part in the program, joining either the Young Influencers Team or the Young Changemakers Team.
The Young Influencers will work to generate youth-based events and communications strategies with the Town, while the Young Changemakers will provide advice and feedback on policies and procedures, deliver youth-engagement activities and work with the Town on relevant initiatives.
Applications close February 16 and can be found at victoriapark.wa.gov.au/YouthLeadershipTeams
