The Town will shortly be undertaking traffic counts on the majority of roads throughout Lathlain. There will be 44 traffic counters placed in strategic locations in the road network of Lathlain in the first week of April 2019 for about eight days (see the attached list(PDF, 200KB)). The information is being collected so that staff can undertake a full evaluation of existing traffic calming treatments already completed and provide a foundation for future engagement with relevant stakeholders.
Lathlain is bounded by primary distributor roads in the north and east: Great Eastern Highway and Orrong Road, Roberts Road being a district distributor B in the south and Perth-Thornlie railway line in the west. Given the locality, cut-through traffic has been seen within the precinct’s road network. In addition, major developments are currently taking place in the precinct, such as the Lathlain Precinct Redevelopment Project.
The Town has been taking measures to maintain residential amenity and road safety on one hand and support developments on the other hand. Traffic engineering consultants were engaged to undertake precinct-wide traffic studies and recommend suitable measures to control traffic distribution and to improve road safety. The Lathlain Traffic Management Plan was derived from the precinct-wide traffic studies and has been systematically implemented throughout the precinct since 2015. This plan was implemented with moderately higher intensity in the years of 2017 and 2018 before being suspended due to community concerns.
Should you require further information about traffic counting works, please contact the Town’s Technical Services staff, Patrick Bingham or Simon Lee, on 9311 8111. Traffic complaints or requests for traffic treatment should be addressed to the Town’s Traffic and Transport Engineer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
