The success of the Garden Organics (GO) system in the Town of Victoria Park has enabled us to reduce the frequency of green waste verge collections from the start of the next financial year.
Going forward, green waste will be collected from property verges twice each financial year instead of three times.
Due to the enthusiastic adoption of the third (GO) bin, the green waste collection originally planned for June 2023 (set out in the 2022-2023 waste calendar) has been cancelled. The next collection is scheduled to begin in early July - please check your forthcoming 2023-2024 waste calendar for exact dates.
This decision reduces collection expenditure and brings the Town of Victoria Park in line with other metropolitan councils, which average one to two green waste collections per year.
It also represents a net positive environmental impact: with fewer collection trucks on the road, we are decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, which ultimately benefits the community.
We wish to emphasise that the GO system has facilitated this change by successfully reducing the amount of green waste generated across the Town. When you place your garden waste in the GO bin, you contribute to our sustainability efforts and help make the Town of Victoria Park a greener and more environmentally friendly community.
