Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot

Western Power renew and upgrade the distribution overhead network when assets are coming to the end of their service life. Traditionally, the work involves like-for-like replacement of these assets.

Replacement of the overhead network with a new underground system is more cost effective for Western Power through the Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot (NRUPP), if the local government authority  covers the cost of replacing the overhead service connection with underground.

The Town of Victoria Park and the City of Canning councils have recently approved a NRUPP partnership with Western Power, to deliver an estimated $15.6 million of local power infrastructure investment covering St James, Bentley and East Victoria Park.  These works are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2021 with a construction timeframe of approximately 18 months.
