Household hazardous waste 2022
The Town in conjunction with Mindarie Regional Council runs a drop off day for household hazardous waste.
For 2022 the drop off day will be Saturday 29 October - 9am to 1pm.
Residents can bring along the following materials and drop them off at our depot, 218 Planet Street Welshpool.
This is a free service and proof of residency will be required.
Drop off your household hazardous waste for free:
There are numerous Councils that offer the disposal of household hazard waste all year round. The program can only accept 20kg or litres per material type and only domestic waste (no business waste accepted). You do not need to be a resident of the local governments managing these facilities to be able to drop off your household hazardous waste for free.
What can I bring to household hazardous waste collection days?
- Asbestos products (no more than six sheets)
- Fluorescent globes/tubes
- Used oil (maximum 20 litres)
- All batteries
- Smoke detectors
- Car and household batteries
- Gas bottles
- Heavy metals (eg mercury)
In addition to this, eWaste,household hazardous waste and materials for for reuse or recycling, can be disposed of or recycled at the Mindarie Regional Council Facility in Tamala Park free of charge. Call 9306 6303 or visit mrc.wa.gov.au for more information.
Conditions for disposal of household hazardous waste
All asbestos products must be wrapped in black builders plastic and sealed with tape prior to transportation. Unwrapped asbestos will not be accepted. Any unidentifiable poisons/chemicals can be checked by the qualified technician on site on the day. Ensure all poison containers are not corroded and are in a safe condition prior to transporting them.
You will be required to show proof of your residency within the Town to access this free service.
Commercial quantities will not be accepted.

Paintback - Australia's national waste paint and packaging solution
Paintback is a cost-effective way for households and trade painters to remove unwanted paint and packaging for free. Paintback accepts up to 100 litres per visit secured in containers of 20 litres or less. Paintback is the way to:
- Responsibly dispose of left-over paint after painting.
- Declutter your garage, shed or under the house of old paint containers.
- Recycle and reduce waste going to landfill.
There is a collection centre at Bentley Cleanaway WA, 32 Ewing St Bentley, enter via Catherine Street, Gate 1. Open from 9am-2pm Monday-Friday. Contact them on 1800 053 784 or visit their website for further details.
Collection of motor oil
Cleanaway will collect five litres of motor oil from residents during the weekly waste bin collection. The motor oil must be in the original container and each resident is permitted to place out five litres per week. Cleanaway does not pick up cooking oils.
