I’m Brendan Nock, and I’ve been working as the Environment Officer at the Town of Victoria Park since February 2012.
My journey with the Town began when I worked part-time as a contractor in a previous job. I was immediately drawn to the incredible culture and the dedicated people here. When a full-time position opened up, I knew I had to join.
One of the moments that solidified my love for working here was realising that our managers not only support environmental initiatives but genuinely care about their team. This supportive environment has been crucial, especially when facing challenges like limited resources and budget constraints. By prioritising projects and collaborating cross-functionally, we’ve been able to make the most of what we have and achieve great things.
The Town’s flexible working arrangements, such as the option to work from home, align perfectly with my values and lifestyle. I deeply appreciate the support from my colleagues and managers, the autonomy we’re given, and the encouragement to think outside the box.
Throughout my time here, I’ve grown significantly, stepping into broader leadership roles, including acting in my manager’s position twice. I’ve had the opportunity to travel with our Mayor to South Korea, and to Melbourne with our Chief Operations Officer and an Elected Member. I’ve also been responsible for facilitating and delivering numerous Town projects.
As the Environment Officer, I oversee various environmental and sustainability initiatives, from developing management plans to organising community events. Looking ahead, I’m excited about the potential to take on more senior roles and expand my skill set. I’m eager to see what the Town will do and what we can achieve together in the realm of environmental sustainability and beyond.
