I’m Tim Cronin, and I’ve been the Supervisor of Parking and Rangers at the Town of Victoria Park since March 2014.
My job involves managing day-to-day operations and providing support to the Parking Officers and Rangers. When I explain my job to my mum or granddad, I tell them I’m the person who keeps everything running smoothly, making sure everyone in the team has what they need to do their job well.
I joined the Town because it seemed like a great opportunity to transition from State Government to Local Government, and it was conveniently close to home. I remember the moment I realised I enjoyed working here was when I was given the autonomy to pick my work hours to suit my lifestyle, as long as I met the needs of the Town. That level of trust and flexibility was something I hadn’t experienced before.
Of course, working here comes with its challenges. Dealing with residents, navigating politics, managing resourcing, and sticking to budgets can be tough. These challenges are constant, but I’ve learned to be resilient. Instead of trying to eliminate these obstacles, I find ways to work with them and achieve the best possible results.
My values align well with my job. Work-life balance is incredibly important to me, and the Town provides a flexible workplace that allows me to structure my days to suit my life outside of work. This balance is my biggest motivator.
One of the things I appreciate most about the Town’s culture is how approachable everyone is, from the CEO down to the officer level. People and life come first here. Whenever life gets challenging, the Town supports you, whether that means more support at work or the freedom to step away when needed.
I’ve grown a lot during my time at the Town. When I started at 26, I didn’t realise how much the relationships and experiences here would shape me. Over the years, working with so many good people and teams, I’ve subtly developed my own style, heavily influenced by the Town’s culture.
In my role, I aim to provide leadership that reflects the Town’s values. I hope to instill these values in our operational staff, who then take them into the field to assist our community members. It’s rewarding to see the positive impact we can have.
Looking to the future, I’m excited about continuing to lead and possibly progressing to a Coordinator level. Right now, I really enjoy setting standards and making sure the team gets every opportunity that I’ve had over the last ten years. While the idea of “Mo money” is a joke, what truly excites me is the chance to keep growing and leading within this community.
