Hey, I’m Tyler Willmore. I started out lifeguarding at Aqualife back in 2021, and now I’m working in the Admin Building as a Finance Officer in Procurement. Bit of a shift, yeah – but it’s been a good one.
My role’s all about supporting the Procurement Officer with admin tasks, keeping everything compliant and fair, and making sure our records and tender register are up to date. It’s a lot of responsibility, but I enjoy the challenge. I’m currently studying procurement, so working here has been a great way to put theory into practice.
What drew me to the Town was the vibe – when I was lifeguarding, the staff were super welcoming, and that stuck with me. Now that I’m in the office, I’ve found the work is dynamic, not repetitive, and there’s room to innovate. I’ve had the support to suggest improvements and help make things more efficient, which is pretty cool.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how local government works – especially all the rules and regulations around procurement. It’s a lot to take in, but I’ve learnt to ask questions (after giving it a crack myself first). I’ve realised you don’t know what you haven’t been exposed to, and that mindset’s helped me build confidence.
My lifestyle and work are pretty different – I’m active, social, and always on the go outside of work, so sitting at a desk is a bit of an adjustment. But the Town’s culture makes it easier. It’s inclusive, social, and really values sustainability. Everyone’s involved and dedicated, and that energy makes a difference.
I’ve learnt heaps about office culture, communication across teams, and why working in silos doesn’t work. Even though I’m casual, I know I bring value to the Procurement Officer by helping manage the workload and keeping things organised. I’d love to contribute more if I had more hours – procurement needs daily attention, and I’m keen to step up.
Looking ahead, I’m excited by the opportunities here. I’m someone who’s never really settled – always looking for the next thing to learn or improve. Whether I stay in procurement or explore something new, I know I’ll keep growing with the Town.
