The Town is aware of, and appreciates, the community’s desire to see the completion of Metronet works along Beatty Ave, Somerset St, Withnell St and Swansea Street East, and is committed to doing all it can to see this happen as soon as practicable.
Staff are in regular contact with Western Power and Metronet regarding the road reinstatement works, which are necessary following Western Power's undergrounding of power cables in the area as part of the wider Metronet project.
Unfortunately, in the course of the reinstatement works, testing has revealed the road base layers are not up to required standards, and so the Town has asked that Western Power remedy this via its contractor.
This will mean more works before the roads can be sealed. The Town has been advised that these works will recommence before the end of the month and that impacted residents should receive a notification of the works in the next week or so.
To maintain road conditions, Western Power has committed to conducting weekday inspections, promptly addressing any potholes, sweeping the roads weekly to minimise debris and watering unsealed roads to repress dust.
The community is asked to direct any queries or complaints regarding the works to Metronet, as it is the owner of the project.
