Community Outreach Service
The Town actively works with the Department of Communities - Office of Homelessness and the Department’s Homeless Engagement, Assessment Response Team (HEART) to help provide appropriate outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness. The HEART team specialises in assisting chronic rough sleepers get connected to appropriate services.
If you come across an individual rough sleeping in the Town, people contact the Town on 9311 8111 or at admin@vicpark.wa.gov.au. The Town will refer the case to the HEART team for support.
Please note that while homelessness is not a crime, antisocial or illegal behaviours must be reported to WA Police on 131 444 or on 000 for emergencies. WA Police can also be contacted if you feel the individual/s require a welfare check.
The Town also contracts a community outreach service, i24s, to build respectful and meaningful relationships with those experiencing homelessness or hardship in our community and, if the person/s is willing, connect them with appropriate services. i24s can also assist with Return to Country requests. Individuals often come to Perth for family, medical, or other reasons and have no means of returning home. i24s can assist individuals with the Return to Country process to help them return to their communities.
Outreach officers patrolling Town suburbs between 12-16 hours per week, with a specific focus will be placed on the John Macmillan precinct, which has been identified as an area of concern for our community through reports, surveys, and as part of the development of our Safer Neighbourhoods Plan 2022-2027.
If you see the team out and about, be sure to say hi!
