Next stage of Archer Street protected bike lane to start construction
Works on stage 2 of the Archer/Mint protected bike lane – jointly funded between the Town of Victoria Park and Public Transport Authority – are scheduled to begin on Tuesday 2 April, and will contribute to the Town’s broader Archer/Mint Streetscape Improvement Plan.
This latest stage of the bike lane project will extend from Gemini Way to Star Street, and will connect with the existing section of protected bike lane already installed between Star and Mars streets, with a future stage of works (timing to be determined) to complete the bike lane so that it stretches the majority of the length of Archer and Mint Streets (between Gemini Way and Hubert Street).
The protected bike lane and associated landscaping is designed to improve safety and confidence for cyclists of all ages and skill levels when using Archer Street, and to further encourage motorists to slow down in the area by narrowing traffic lane widths and improving crossing points.
The route is informed by the Department of Transport's Long Term Cycle Network blueprint for a continuous cycling network in the Perth and Peel region, with the cycling infrastructure set to improve access to and from the new Carlisle train station and surrounding public realm currently under construction by METRONET.
The stage 2 works are expected to take approximately 3 months to complete and will result in some partial road closures and traffic management in the area.
