 Additional information

Parked in a "No Stopping/Parking" area

‘No Stopping’ signs mean that a vehicle must not stop at any time on a length of the road or area to which the No Stopping signs apply. Not even for a minute to quickly grab something, deliver goods or even drop off or pick up passengers. You may only stop in a No Stopping area to comply with other regulations such as traffic lights Stopping areas can be identified by either a No Stopping sign on a post or by yellow edge line markings. No Stopping areas are in place to improve traffic flow and to increase safety for other motorists and pedestrians. In a ‘No Parking Area’ you may stop your vehicle for a total of two minutes and remain in the vehicle, or within three meters of the vehicle. Remaining stopped in a No Parking Area for longer than two minutes is committing an offence and a potential fine may be issued.

Obstructing access to a driveway

A driver shall not stop a vehicle so that any portion of the vehicle is in front of a path and/or driveway crossover in a position that obstructs access by vehicles or pedestrians to or from that path.

Parked on a private verge without permission

What is a verge?
A verge is defined as the portion of land that lies between the road and property line and also includes any part of the verge designed for or intended for the use of vehicles. A verge includes the crossover (driveway) but does not include a footpath. Should there be verge parking restrictions in place, you may still receive an infringement notice for parking on the crossover.

Important: For parking on the verge without permission, we will need you to be onsite to complete the required ‘witness complaint’ form. You will also need to be prepared to attend court if the driver of the vehicle decides to contest the infringement notice.

No verge restrictions in place
To park on a verge, you will need the permission of the owner/occupier of the premises adjacent to the verge.

Note: Signage is not required to enforce this regulation. Any vehicle parked on a verge without permission is liable to be issued an infringement notice.

Single Dwelling Properties
Should a vehicle be parked on your verge without your permission and you live in a single dwelling property then the Town can take action against unauthorized verge parking on this type of property,

Strata properties, multi-dwelling properties, and/or battle-axe blocks
The owner/occupier directly adjacent to the verge, or the person authorised by that owner/occupier, may park on the verge or, a written resolution between all owner/occupiers has been established and provided to the Town to prohibit parking on the verge.

Verge restrictions in place Where verge parking signs are present, these restrictions apply to all vehicles, including residents. No exemptions. Verge parking near intersections Parking on a verge within 10 metres of an intersection is prohibited. Verge parking for more than 24 hours Parking on a verge for more than 24 hours is prohibited. This restriction applies to all vehicles including owners and occupiers.
