Rewild your weekend and plant like nobody’s watching. Together we’re bringing the biodiversity back to Vic Park!

Each year, the Town runs community planting days as part of the Urban Forest Strategy. Taking place during our planting season, which runs from June to September, we tackle local locations with our planting schedule and invite community members to join us in investing in our future urban forest canopy and understorey.

Join us for one or both planting sessions!

Community Planting Day - June

  • Sunday 29 June 2025
  • 9am-12pm
  • Corner Hayman Road and Brodie-Hall Drive

For our first planting day this year, we're returning to one of our 2024 planting sites for an encore performance—this time with infill planting to boost the chorus of native species.

Summer can be tough for our seedlings, not all of them have what it takes to make it in this hot, harsh world. Come help us remix the canopy, reconnecting the ecological corridor, and infill planting this important section of our ecological corridor project.

We'll also have some special guests in attendance;

These events are FREE, but please register for catering purposes.

Community Planting Day - July

  • Sunday 27 July 2025
  • 9am-10.30am (longer if the skies ease up)
  • Corner Hayman Road and Brodie-Hall Drive

Sunday 27 July is National Tree Day, and what better way to celebrate than by helping us grow our ecological corridor.

Heavy rain and cold conditions are to be expected, but that won't stop the planting party!

  • Hot drinks and tasty treats provided
  • Parking available at The Hub and on Brodie Hall Drive
  • Accessible portable toilet on site
  • Bring: wet weather gear, water bottle, reusable cup and a sense of adventure

Unfortunately ReWild, DPIRD and the FOGO team will no longer be heading down given the intense weather. We have also reconfigured the site plan for the day, to make the most of the undercover areas available.

These events are FREE, but please register for catering purposes.

What are we planting?

The Town is all about planting local species, so local in fact that most of our tube stock is grown from seed that has been collected from Jirdarup Bushland and Hill View Bushland - which makes our plants very special indeed. We are really pleased to be able to work with the City of South Perth nursery to raise our seed into strong seedlings, ready to plant across the Town. Being grown from locally collected seed also means that our plant stock is happiest in our local soils and local climate; maximising the resilience of our planting program. You can find out more about the many local species we are planting at our Community Planting Days below.

Street Trees

Keen to embrace our urban forest and request a street tree this planting season?

Each year, our Leafy Streets program runs during planting season (June to September), where we identify verges for planting and give residents a choice of tree to add to their verge.

We also welcome resident-led interest in having a verge tree planted and will consider requests on a case-by-case basis.

Street tree planting requests can be made all year around, with the cut-off date at the end of February for tree planting in the same year. Requests made after February will be included in the following planting season.
