Mini Murals
Expressions of interest open 17 October - 30 November
The Town of Victoria Park is on the lookout for three artists/artworks to activate traffic control boxes throughout the town as part of our Mini Mural series. It is intended that the selected artworks will act as a deterrent to graffiti vandalism and activate precincts of the town through public art.
There are two categories for the current round of expressions of interest:
Vinyl wrap artworks
Artist fee: $500 per artwork
Submissions due: Sunday, 30 November 2025
We are seeking two artworks in this category. The selected artworks will be reproduced and printed onto vinyl wrap and installed on traffic control boxes throughout the town. Artists are encouraged to submit existing artworks for consideration. This project is also an opportunity for artists to create a new and engaging work which will enliven and enhance our public space.
Please take the following into consideration when making a submission:
- Artworks must have a playful quality that engages the public
- Designs can be abstract, pattern, geometric, illustrative or tell a story
- Artworks must be suitable for the format of the panels or for division/tiling into panels
- Artworks must not include large areas of block colour or many light colours
- The content/context of the artwork must be appropriate for a public location and suitable for people of all ages
- There is no prescribed theme
Curtin University emerging artist
Artist fee: $1,200
Submissions due: Sunday, 30 November 2025
We're seeking one artist in this category. The selected artist must supply all materials needed to paint the artwork directly onto the traffic control box (unless opting to submit the final design as digital artwork for vinyl installation).
Please take the following into consideration when making a submission:
- Artist must be a current Curtin University student
- As the traffic control box sits within the Wildflower Capital Initiative, the artwork must highlight/showcase iconic Native Western Australian flora (single species/variety - no specific requirement)
- Artwork must not include large areas of block colour or many light colours
- The content/context of the artwork must be appropriate for a public location and suitable for people of all ages
FAQs
When are expressions of interest open and how do I make a submission?
Expressions of interest are open from 17 October to 30 November 2025. Submissions for both the vinyl wrap artworks and Curtin University emerging artist categories can be made using the form on this page below.
What format do the artworks need to be supplied in?
When making a submission, please provide your design as a low-resolution (72dpi) digital file.
If selected, the artist will be required to provide the final artwork as a high resolution, digital file at a minimum of 300dpi, ideally in CMYK. PDF, hi-res jpeg, .eps or .ai file formats are all acceptable.
What are the traffic control box dimensions?
The dimensions are 1500mm (height) x 900mm (width) x 500mm (depth). Our traffic control boxes feature identification stickers/badges which may vary in location on the traffic control boxes. Please find our specification fact sheet here.
You are not required to submit artworks using the above dimensions as part of your expression of interest. If selected, artists will be provided with the final specifications of the traffic control boxes.
Will my artwork be reproduced?
Artwork will not be reproduced in other ways except those outlined in the Mini Mural artist agreement, unless the artist’s permission is obtained. The artist will retain copyright and ownership of the artwork. Photography of the installed artwork may be used by the Town across social media and other platforms as required. The artist’s name will be included on the box and in digital and print media where their artwork is featured.
What will happen if my artwork is damaged?
Should a vinyl wrap be damaged, the Town will have it replaced and maintained.
