The Town of Victoria Park is gearing up for yet another ‘Urban Forest at Home’ free plant giveaway, with online orders opening on 25 April.

Part of the Town’s Urban Forest program, which seeks to boost local tree canopy levels to 20%, quick Vic Park locals will have their pick from a range of trees and native shrub packages, perfect for planting out their verge and/or garden.

“We are excited to run this popular program again for our tree-loving residents whom we know are eager to help us green Vic Park,” Mayor Karen Vernon said.

“With this summer breaking heat records, creating more shade and cooling our neighbourhoods is more important than ever.”

“Increased local vegetation also means more habitat and for our wildlife, and with many of the plants coming from seeds gathered in our own beautiful urban forest at Jirdarup Bushland, they should feel right at home!”

Online orders will remain open while stocks last. It’s always very popular and heavily over-subscribed so be sure to mark the date in your calendar and order early!

Applicants will be able to pick up their new plant friends at the ‘Urban Forest at Home’ in-person event on Saturday 25 May, 9am-2.30pm, Victoria Park Council Depot, corner of Star St and Briggs St.
