Those parking in the Town of Victoria Park can now choose between two different parking payment apps in a deal that has been described as the first of its kind in Australia.
“Allowing users to have a choice of parking app is more accessible, more convenient, and creates a competitive market for fees and service quality,” said Town of Vic Park Mayor Karen Vernon.
EasyPark and PayStay, two of Australia’s most popular parking payment apps, are now in operation across the Town, with all paid parking areas available using the same zone codes in both apps.
Each app has its own interface, fee structure and feature list, allowing users to choose their preferred parking payment experience.
Other local governments have switched between two apps - occasionally with a temporary crossover period - and the municipality of Mosman in New South Wales uses both the NSW government’s Park’nPay app and a privately-owned alternative in certain areas, but the Town of Victoria Park is believed to be the first in Australia to integrate two independent parking apps on an ongoing basis.
Parkers in the Town also have the option of paying directly by card at a solar-powered parking meter, which is cashless, paperless and does not require an app or smartphone.
One 30-minute session of free parking is available in any paid parking location within the Town (once per vehicle, per day), and many locations such as the Town leisure centres provide longer periods of free parking.
