Victoria Park Council has announced six key Advocacy Priorities that will shape its important strategic conversations with the State and Federal governments during the coming year to build support for projects and initiatives that will benefit the local community.
The 2026–27 Advocacy Priorities focus on:
- Improving coordinated responses to homelessness and rough sleeping.
- Upgrading the Burswood Train Station and Precinct.
- Revitalisation of community sporting facilities at Higgins Park and Playfield Reserve.
- Restoring the Kent Street Sandpit as part of the Jirdarup Bushland Precinct.
- Securing funding for completion of the Rutland Avenue Principal Shared Path.
- Securing State Government investment in public and community infrastructure to support the future residential density planned through the Carlisle and Oats Street Train Station improvement plans, including support for the future redevelopment of Aqualife.
Mayor Karen Vernon said the Town had chosen to focus on issues and initiatives where support from other levels of government would make the biggest difference.
“These priorities are about securing support for projects that will improve the lives of local people,” Mayor Vernon said.
“From better sporting and recreation facilities to safer walking and cycling connections, protecting our natural environment and supporting people experiencing homelessness, these are investments that will benefit our community for years to come.”
A new priority is aligned to the State Government’s recently announced planning framework for transit-oriented development within the Carlisle and Oats Street train station precincts, recognising the opportunity for State investment in critical public infrastructure to incentivise quality medium to high density developments.
The Town will also advocate for the redevelopment of Aqualife as essential community infrastructure to enhance the lives of future generations.
“Many of these projects can't be delivered by local government alone,” Mayor Vernon said.
“By having a clear set of priorities, we're putting Victoria Park in a stronger position to encourage collaboration with the State and Federal Government that is needed to deliver projects that will bring intergenerational benefits for our community.”
The Advocacy Priorities support the Town's Strategic Community Plan and will guide the Town’s work with State and Federal governments, Members of Parliament and key stakeholders over the coming year.
