Mini Murals

Expressions of interest now open

The Town of Victoria Park is calling for artists to activate six utility boxes throughout the town as part of our Mini Murals program.

Artists are encouraged to submit existing artworks for consideration. This project provides artists with an opportunity to develop and strengthen their creative practice while contributing to the vibrancy of our public spaces. It is intended that the artwork will act as a deterrent to graffiti vandalism and activate precincts of the town through public art.

We are looking for selected artworks to be painted on the utility boxes by the artists, with an option for artwork to alternatively be printed and installed on vinyl wrapping.

An opportunity for all artists

We are calling on artists of all backgrounds to apply, with encouragement for First Nations artists and emerging/student artists to submit their expression of interest.

Artist fees
  • Painted artwork: artist fee for painting the artwork onto a utility box is $1,200. The artist must supply all materials needed to paint the artwork directly onto the utility box (the Town of Victoria Park will apply an anti-graffiti coating once painted).
  • Digital/vinyl artwork: artist fee for providing a hi-res image suitable for vinyl wrapping is $500 per artwork.
Expressions of interest close 30 November 2026 and must be completed using the form below.

FAQs

When are expressions of interest open and how do I make a submission?

Expressions of interest are open from 2 - 30 November 2026. Submissions must be made using the online form on this page.

What format do the artworks need to be supplied in?

When making a submission, please provide your design as a low-resolution (72dpi) digital file.

If selected for digital artwork, the artist will be required to provide the final artwork as a high resolution, digital file at a minimum of 300dpi, ideally in CMYK. PDF, hi-res jpeg, .eps or .ai file formats are all acceptable.

What is the Town looking for in terms of design?

There is no prescribed theme, however the artwork could depict local stories, celebrate culture, or showcase the unique spirit of a local area. Designs can be abstract, pattern, geometric, illustrative, or tell a story.

Artwork should have a playful quality that engages the public, whilst being appropriate for a public location and suitable for people of all ages.

What is a utility box and what are the dimensions?

The dimensions are approximately 1500mm (height) x 900mm (width) x 500mm (depth). For more information, see our fact sheet here.

You are not required to submit artworks using the above dimensions as part of your expression of interest. If selected, artists will be provided with the final specifications of the utility boxes.

Will my artwork be reproduced?

Artwork will not be reproduced in other ways except those outlined in the Mini Mural artist agreement, unless the artist’s permission is obtained. The artist will retain copyright and ownership of the artwork. Photography/videography of the installed artwork may be used by the Town across social media and other platforms as required. The artist’s name will be included on the box and in digital and print media where their artwork is featured.

What will happen if my artwork is damaged?

Should a vinyl wrap be damaged, the Town will have it replaced and maintained.
