The Town of Victoria Park is proud to celebrate the installation of our 200th Cockitrough®, with the milestone Cockitrough finding its home at Riding for Disabled Capricorn in Wanneroo, an inspiring organisation dedicated to supporting people with disability through the therapeutic benefits of horseriding.
What began as a local solution to a local problem, our Cockitrough design has grown into something much bigger.
Developed by the Town in 2018, the Cockitrough was created to provide black cockatoos and other native wildlife with a safe, reliable source of drinking water. By offering easy access to fresh water in a changing climate, where habitats are increasingly fragmented by urbanisation and agriculture, the Cockitrough has become a simple yet effective innovation to support our local wildlife.
Today, Cockitroughs can be found across metropolitan Perth, throughout regional Western Australia, and even a few interstate. Each installation plays a small but important role in helping our native wildlife thrive.
A special thanks goes out to our neighbours at the City of South Perth, who were the first local government outside the Town to install a Cockitrough. They are now proud owners of 12 units, helping to provide safe drinking water for wildlife across their community.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be showcasing some of our favourite Cockitrough installations, highlighting the incredible organisations, communities and individuals who have joined us on this journey.
