Important: You must activate your free parking session
To receive your 30 minutes of free parking, you must start a parking session using a parking meter or supported parking app, even if you intend to park for less than 30 minutes. The free parking period does not start automatically when you park your vehicle.
- When were the changes to the free parking period made, and why?
The changes were introduced on 17 July 2024. Motorists now receive 30 minutes of free parking per vehicle, per day.
This initiative was introduced to increase parking turnover and improve access for people visiting the area. After the free 30 minutes, motorists can continue parking by paying the applicable parking fees, subject to the time limits for the area.
- What are the specific rules regarding the 30-minute free parking?
Each vehicle is entitled to one free 30-minute parking session per day.Motorists must activate a parking session using a parking machine or supported parking app to receive the free 30 minutes, even if they intend to park for less than 30 minutes.
Once the free period has been used, any additional parking will require payment, and the applicable parking restrictions must be followed. If you leave the zone and wish to park again in the same zone, a minimum of two hours must first pass before you can park in that area again, as required by the Town's Vehicle Management Local Law.
- How do I activate my 30 minutes of free parking?
To access your free 30 minutes, you must start a parking session using one of the following methods:
- Parking meter: Follow the instructions on the machine and enter your vehicle registration to activate your free parking session.
- Parking app: Use a supported parking app, such as EasyPark or PayStay, to start a parking session for your vehicle.
You must activate your session when you park, even if you only intend to stay for a few minutes
- What should I do if I cannot start a parking session using a parking app?
If you experience difficulty starting a parking session through EasyPark or PayStay, including receiving a message that you have reached the maximum parking time allowed, please try another available parking method.
Some customers may experience difficulty starting a new parking session in EasyPark after parking in another location within the Town on the same day.
If this occurs, you can try using a nearby parking meter or another supported parking app to activate your session.
Please ensure you have successfully activated a valid parking session before leaving your vehicle unattended. If the issue continues, please contact the Town's Parking and Rangers team on (08) 9311 8111 for assistance.
We recommend taking a screenshot of any error message, including the date, time and parking location, to assist with investigating the issue.
- What if residents or visitors need to make multiple trips during the day?
Motorists can use their free 30-minute parking entitlement once per vehicle, per day. Any additional parking will be subject to the applicable parking fees and restrictions.
Under the Town's Vehicle Management Local Law, vehicles must leave the area or zone for at least two hours before parking in the same zone again.
- Can I return to the same parking area later in the day?
Yes, provided at least two hours have passed since your vehicle left the zone, in accordance with the Town's Vehicle Management Local Law.
The free 30-minute parking entitlement can only be used once per vehicle, per day. Any subsequent parking session will be subject to the applicable parking fees and restrictions.
