Macmillan Precinct Redevelopment Project

Project Type: Projects

The Town’s Macmillan Precinct is a much-valued hub of community services. In 2018, a detailed audit commissioned by the Town showed that significant renewal and investment in the coming decades will be required to replace the Precinct’s ageing buildings, including the Vic Park Library and Leisurelife Centre, to meet changing community needs.

The Macmillan Precinct Redevelopment Project is a unique opportunity to build a vibrant and innovative hub for living, learning, culture, wellness, and community.

The Town has been working closely with local clubs, groups and residents to collaboratively shape a Masterplan fit for the future needs of our community.

Overview

Since 2001, Macmillan Precinct has been identified as a potential centre or hub for the Town. In 2018, Council approved the project business case option to prepare a masterplan to guide the future of the precinct.

The Macmillan Precinct Redevelopment Project will be delivered in six stages. See below for more information about each stage.

Why a redevelopment?

Findings from the Town’s 2018 Building Condition Assessments for the precinct identified emerging challenges which will require significant renewal and investment over the coming decades, including:

  • Ageing community service facilities, including the Library and Leisurelife
  • Poor accessibility to accommodate all community members at the facilities
  • Shortage of space to deliver modern community services for a growing population
  • Concerns for safety and activity around the precinct

To address these challenges, we are working closely with local clubs, groups and residents to collaboratively shape a masterplan to guide the long-term use of the precinct.

The Macmillan Precinct Redevelopment Project is now underway, working towards providing the community with opportunities to access, enjoy and use state-of-the-art facilities, enhanced green space and a vibrant destination.
