Severe weather alert

The Town of Victoria Park is preparing for a forecast of significant rain and strong winds this weekend, with crews working proactively throughout the week to reduce potential impacts on our community.

What the Town has been doing

Our teams have been focused on getting ahead of the weather to protect local infrastructure and minimise disruption:

  • A dedicated Civil Crew has been systematically clearing known drainage hotspots across the Town, removing debris from streets and gutters that could be mobilised during heavy rainfall
  • Drainage pits in these areas have been cleared to ensure they are operating at full capacity
  • Our Property Team has undertaken targeted gutter cleaning on buildings with a history of leaks or flooding
  • Library and Leisure teams have reviewed and activated site-specific response plans to manage any impacts to facilities or services

We have also strengthened our operational readiness:

  • Additional crews are on standby to respond as needed
  • Out-of-hours customer service processes have been adjusted to prioritise urgent issues
  • Internal coordination systems have been enhanced to support rapid communication, escalation and staff safety during the event

While we hope these preparations will minimise impacts, our teams are ready to respond if required.

How you can prepare

There are several simple steps residents can take to help protect their homes and stay safe:

Around your home

  • Clear gutters and downpipes to prevent water build-up
  • Trim overhanging branches that could fall in strong winds
  • Secure loose outdoor items such as furniture and trampolines
  • Bring bins in as soon as possible after collection If you are in a flood-prone area
  • Consider purchasing sandbags from local hardware stores such as Bunnings
  • Move valuables to higher ground where possible

During the storm

  • Stay indoors where possible and avoid unnecessary travel
  • If driving, slow down, keep a safe distance and turn your headlights on
  • Be prepared for power outages with torches, batteries and non-perishable food

Stay informed

Keep up to date through official channels:

  • Emergency WA
  • Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES)
  • Bureau of Meteorology
  • Main Roads Western Australia (for road closures)
  • Local radio, including 720 ABC Perth if power or internet services are disrupted

Who to contact

  • Life-threatening emergencies: Call 000
  • State Emergency Service (SES): Call 132 500 for storm damage assistance (e.g. temporary repairs)

Service requests and response times

Residents can report issues such as blocked drains, fallen branches or flooding through the Town’s website or customer service channels.

Due to the potential scale of this weather event, response times may be longer than usual as crews prioritise urgent and high-risk situations.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our teams work to keep the community safe.
